Fondant amimals

Let's make animals out of fondant!

I recently had an order for a baby shower cake. The mother to be wanted pink and brown camouflage with elephants. I figured the best way to have an elephant is to make one out of fondant. I took some pictures along the way so I can show you all how to make animals out of fondant.

After researching elephant fondants I decided I should make each part of the elephant and put it all together at the end.

First I tinted the fondant light pink using my Wilton light pink tint

Then I rolled each body part out. You can see the middle, head, and arms here
Then I began to put the body all together.
Try not to make it too heavy or you will have to take some fondant away later. You want it to be able to sit on top of a cake.

I used the Wilton food markers to make the elephants eyes. Next it was time for the ears.

To keep my elephant from drooping I stuck a skewer through him. It helped keep him up right and I used the bottom of the skewer to set him on top of the cake.

There he is. Isn't he cute? I cut the top of the skewer off and moved the fondant around on his head to cover up the skewer. He is ready for the top of a cake.

Thanks for checking out my little elephant!

Sunflower Cake

Hello! Let's bake a cute Easter Cake today!!

I took a little break to spend some much needed family time. Getting back into the routine of things I is almost Easter!

Let's make a quick and cute Easter cake

I am sure you have seen these cakes all over the Internet. They are too cute! Let's make one. Step one: bake a cake. I baked a chocolate cake using my Wilton 8 inch round cake pan.

I like how it is one solid cake. It makes it so easy to decorate and work with. Okay step two is to ice the cake with chocolate icing. I am loving all the chocolate!!

Next step I am giving out an awesome tip!! I hate how when you break apart peeps they have a little white spot on their sides. Call me a perfectionist. I wanted a way to make them all yellow and look amazing. So I had some yellow spray food coloring. There you go..just a nice spray of the food coloring and they are all yellow peeps!

Now for the fun steps! Perfectly place your peeps along the outer rim of your chocolate cake.

Finally, fill the middle with regular sized chocolate chips to make the "seeds" and you have a cute and fun Easter cake!

Thanks for checking out my cake and Happy Baking

Patchwork Cupcakes

Just a quick post today about new cupcakes I made for Easter

I will get a tutorial up soon!

I used marshmallow fondant. Here is the recipe for marshmallow fondant:

1 bag mini marshmallows
powdered sugar

Pour bag of mini marshmallows into a microwaveable safe large bowl
Heat for 30 seconds then stir
Heat for additional 30 seconds and stir until all marshmallows are melted

Add about 1/2 bag of powdered sugar to the melted marshmallows

spread onto flowered surface

take the shortening and spread on you hands (trust will look like a nut!) kneed fondant mix with shortening

add shortening as you need it to keep your hands from sticking

keep kneading the fondant until you have a fondant consistency

store in plastic wrap and a zip lock bag

Very Easy!!

More pictures of my Easter Patchwork Cupcakes!
